Call for solidarity in parliament following floods in central Moldova
PAS MP Tatiana Rotari issued a call for solidarity today in light of the floods that have affected several towns in central Moldova following the torrential rains on May 22. The call was also supported by the parliamentary opposition.
The lawmaker emphasized in the plenary session of the legislature the need for a joint mobilization by authorities and society to support families affected by flash floods and property damage.
“Solidarity is needed for families affected by disasters,” said Tatiana Rotari, urging unity and involvement in supporting those affected.
The appeal comes as the districts of Ungheni, Călărași, Strășeni, and Criuleni have been hit by heavy rains, which caused flooding, significant property damage, and loss of life.
Authorities are continuing to assess the damage and carry out on-site interventions, and support for affected families will be coordinated through local and central institutions.
MP Vasile Costiuc also urged the lawmakers to personally assist families and, in particular, the elderly affected by the severe weather.
Serghei Diaconu, director of the National Crisis Management Center (CNMC), announced on Wednesday that 69 households were affected by the flooding caused by last week’s torrential rains, and two people died.
According to the official, the rains caused damage and flooding in 25 localities in the districts of Călărași, Strășeni, Ungheni, and Criuleni. As a result, about 400 households were at risk of flooding, but through joint efforts and rapid interventions, they were successfully protected from the floodwaters.
