Departed well-known composer of Moldova honored in Chisinau: maestro’s music returns to salon bearing his name

The Eugen Doga Musical Salon has reopened its doors one year after the maestro’s passing. The show, The Maestro’s Art – Treasure of the Universe, dedicated to the great composer, brought together cultural figures, artists and admirers of Eugen Doga’s work.

Renowned artists from Moldova and Romania, journalists, diplomats, writers and lyricists came to the musical salon on Eminescu Street in the capital, to pay tribute to the maestro.

“We all feel him close through the music we constantly listen to. The maestro is always with us; he has remained in our souls and hearts through the nice moments. It is something eternal, and the advice he gave me and other artists is forever imprinted. However, this year has been very hard, spiritually, extremely hard,” writer Angela Mandacanu told MOLDPRES.

The song “Codrii mei bătrâni” (“My Ancient Forests”), performed by the band “Akord,” resounded this time with a profound emotional charge. The performers look back with nostalgia at the moments when they were guided and welcomed into the home of maestro Eugen Doga.

“Maestro Doga was a spiritual father to us. He welcomed us into his home, seated us at the piano, taught us what is right and what is not, what we should do on stage and what we should not do. Everything came from the heart. For us, the maestro was a great teacher. He was so much of a perfectionist that, although his works are monumental, he treated them with extraordinary simplicity,” said Igor Sârbu, a member of the band “Akord,” in a statement for MOLDPRES.

Contacted by MOLDPRES, Romanian singer Iana Novac, who performed the piece “My Sweet and Tender Beast” (“Dulcea și tandra mea fiară”), said that the name Eugen Doga awakens in her the most beautiful emotions:

“Light, intense feelings, kindness, simplicity, genius. Valuable people are usually the simplest people and I am honored and blessed to have had the chance to know him personally.”

The musical salon, The Maestro’s Art – Treasure of the Universe, dedicated to maestro Eugen Doga, was organized by the “Dominanta” Association, led by the composer’s daughter, Viorica Doga.

“The salon was the maestro’s idea. Now I am trying, as much as possible, to preserve this tradition. Uniting people of the arts is essential, because sometimes we risk losing contact with culture, and this is the spirit of the salon. It is important that, here in the Doga house, his immortal music continues to be present,” Viorica Doga told MOLDPRES.
