Moldovan Prime Minister: We want to take our cooperation with Japan to new level

The projects carried out in our country with the support of Japan and the possibilities of deepening Moldovan-Japanese cooperation in many key areas were discussed at a meeting between Prime Minister Dorin Recean and President of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Akihiko Tanaka, who is in Chisinau for the second time.

In recent years, Japan, through JICA, has provided the Republic of Moldova with financial support of about 42 million euros, in the form of grants and advantageous loans.

The official expressed gratitude for the constant support our country has received from Japan. At the same time, the results of cooperation in the fields of health, agriculture, education, digitalization, economy, internal affairs and finance were appreciated.

Recean emphasized the benefits our country offers to investors and advocated for attracting more Japanese companies to the Republic of Moldova.

"We want to take our collaboration with Japan to a new level. We see interest from Japanese companies in our country and want to open more doors for investments," said Recean.

In this context, he pointed out initiatives to promote our country's image and invited Japanese officials to Moldova's pavilion at the World Expo in Osaka, where Moldova Day will be organized on 31 August.

JICA is a governmental organization empowered to support economic and social growth in developing countries and to promote international cooperation. Japanese funds have been used for concrete projects such as: modern medical equipment for five hospitals in the country, contributing to the improvement of medical services; 19 vehicles for firefighters and rescue teams, which help save lives in emergencies; over 1,000 farmers have been supported to adopt sustainable practices, including the installation of photovoltaic systems in 47 farms, with a total value of about 2.6 million euros; subsidies of about 2 million euros for purchasing agricultural fertilizers aimed at supporting local farms' productivity, equipping the National Library with modern equipment, which allows digitization of cultural heritage and easier access to information.
