
Ion Munteanu sworn in as judge at Supreme Court of Justice
Ion Munteanu, former Prosecutor General of the Republic of Moldova was sworn in today as a judge of the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ). The ceremony took place during a plenary session of the Superior Council of Magistracy.
Munteanu will serve at the country's highest judicial authority until reaching the age limit. The event occurs just one day after Ion Munteanu officially submitted his resignation from the position of Prosecutor General. The decree signed by President Maia Sandu appointing Munteanu as a judge at the CSJ was published on 26 May.
According to the legislation, the Superior Council of Prosecutors has a five-day term to meet and set the date for a session where an interim Prosecutor General will be appointed. Subsequently, a competition is to be organized within six months for the permanent appointment to the position.
