Azerbaijan's Independence Day marked by official event in Chisinau

Azerbaijan's Independence Day, celebrated annually on 28 May was marked by a solemn ceremony organized by the Azerbaijani Embassy in the Republic of Moldova. The event took place in Chisinau and brought together high-ranking officials, representatives of the diplomatic staff and members of the Azerbaijani diaspora.

Official Speeches and Historical Significance

During the ceremony, Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Moldova, His Excellency Ulvi Bakhshaliyev emphasized the profound significance of 28 May, the date on which, in 1918, the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was founded – the first democratic republic in the East and in the Muslim world.

“Although it lasted only 23 months, this act demonstrated that maintaining independence is more difficult than obtaining it. The flag raised in 1918 was lowered in 1920. Later, the great leader Heydar Aliyev officially raised it again, marking the beginning of a new path to independence,” the ambassador said.

The diplomat also recalled the recent restoration of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity, noting that in 2023, the authorities in Baku fully achieved this national objective.

Official Presence from the Republic of Moldova

The guest of honor at the event was Speaker Igor Grosu. There were also representatives of the Government, Parliament, diplomatic staff and members of the Azerbaijani community in the Republic of Moldova.

In his speech, Igor Grosu highlighted the diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and Azerbaijan, which have lasted for 33 years and are characterized by a consistently positive evolution.

“Both countries have supported each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity within internationally recognized borders. Azerbaijan is an important partner for Moldova, both bilaterally and within the framework of international cooperation,” the official said.

In conclusion, Igor Grosu conveyed sincere congratulations to the Azerbaijani people, wishing peace, development and prosperity.

Artistic Program and Cultural Traditions

The event concluded on a festive note, with an artistic program that included traditional Azerbaijani dances and poetry recitals performed by students of the Azerbaijani Children's School. Guests also had the opportunity to taste dishes typical of traditional Azerbaijani cuisine.
