Moldovan deputy PM meets OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities

Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi today had a meeting with OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, Ambassador Christophe Kamp, on a working visit to Chisinau. The discussions focused on the protection of the rights of national minorities, multilingual education and the strengthening of social cohesion among ethnic communities, in the context of the EU accession process.

Minister Mihai Popsoi reaffirmed the authorities’ commitment to promoting human rights and a society based on mutual respect and inclusion, emphasizing that these principles are fundamental elements of Moldova’s European path.

“European integration means building a society in which each citizen feels respected and has equal opportunities to thrive. We will continue to invest in education, in promoting cultural and linguistic diversity, as well as in bringing communities from across the country closer together,” said Mihai Popsoi.

During the meeting, the officials highlighted the importance of the multilingual education for facilitating the social and economic participation of all citizens, as well as the need to promote the Romanian language while simultaneously preserving and developing the languages of national minorities. The sides also appreciated the cooperation in implementing projects dedicated to educational institutions and to fostering dialogue between communities.

High Commissioner Christophe Kamp welcomed the progress made by Moldova in the European integration process and reconfirmed the readiness of the Office of the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities to continue supporting the authorities in its areas of competence.
