Moldovan PM at Ukraine Recovery Conference says Moldova to continue to stand by Ukraine, contribute to its reconstruction
Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu has taken part in the fifth edition of the Ukraine Recovery Conference, held in Gdańsk, Poland. The event brought together heads of state and government, representatives of European and international institutions, development partners, as well as representatives of the business community and civil society involved in supporting Ukraine’s reconstruction.
In his address, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu reaffirmed Moldova’s firm support for Ukraine and condemned the Russian Federation’s war of aggression against the neighboring country. The PM highlighted the resilience of the Ukrainian people who, despite the war, continue to defend their country, rebuild schools, hospitals and energy infrastructure and move forward on the path of reforms.
“Ukraine’s recovery does not mean only rebuilding a country. It means strengthening the future of our entire region and of Europe as a whole. Moldova will continue to stand by Ukraine, just as it has from the first day of the invasion. We will continue to contribute through practical cooperation, enhanced energy security and closer regional partnerships,” said Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu.
The PM emphasized the role of Moldova in strengthening Ukraine’s connectivity with European markets. In recent years, the country has become an important route for trade, transport and energy flows linking Ukraine to the European Union. In the context, Moldova is ready to further develop its infrastructure and consolidate its role as a logistics hub in support of Ukraine’s reconstruction.
At the same time, Moldova is implementing more cross-border projects in the fields of transport, roads and railways, developed through bilateral and multilateral cooperation, including within the Odesa Triangle format. Projects aimed at the construction and modernization of bridges, roads and railway lines will help increase cross-border capacity, facilitate trade and transport, and, implicitly, back Ukraine’s economic recovery.
“For Ukraine, resilient and diversified transport routes are essential for economic recovery and long-term growth. Moldova is committed to helping ensure these connections,” the prime minister noted.
Another topic addressed by the PM was regional energy cooperation. Alexandru Munteanu said that Moldova was continuing reforms to integrate into the European natural gas and electricity markets, while at the same time strengthening energy cooperation with Ukraine.
The prime minister highlighted the importance of regional initiatives, such as the Vertical Gas Corridor, as well as bilateral projects, including the Balti – Dniester Hydroelectric Power Plant initiative. At the same time, the government is investing in expanding renewable energy production, which can contribute to diversifying the energy sources available to Ukraine.
The Ukraine Recovery Conference has been organized for five consecutive years and serves as an international platform for coordinating support for Ukraine’s reconstruction, modernization and European integration.
