Noise from traffic, airports and industry to be monitored and reduced
Areas within localities affected by excessive noise will be identified using noise maps, and the responsible authorities and operators will develop and implement measures to reduce noise pollution. The provisions are included in the Regulation on the assessment and management of environmental noise, approved by the Government.
The document creates a framework for monitoring noise generated by road traffic, rail traffic, airports and large industrial activities. Priority will be given to spaces where noise directly affects the population: residential neighborhoods, parks, and areas near schools, kindergartens and hospitals.
In the first stage, the main sources of noise pollution will be identified. These include roads with an annual traffic of more than 3 million vehicle passages, main railway lines with more than 30,000 train passages per year, main airports with more than 50,000 aircraft movements annually, as well as sites where large industrial activities take place.
Based on these data, strategic noise maps will be developed. They will show where the permitted noise levels are exceeded and will help the authorities determine the necessary interventions.
Subsequently, the responsible authorities and operators will prepare action plans to reduce noise. The measures may include technical solutions to reduce noise, more efficient traffic management, more rigorous urban planning and the protection of quiet areas within localities.
The implementation of the regulation will allow for more efficient management of noise pollution and will contribute to improving the quality of life for people who live or carry out their activities in noise-affected areas.
