President on first EU-Moldova Summit
Top leadership of the European Union will participate in the EU-Moldova summit, due on 4 July in Chisinau. The event signifies that the Republic of Moldova is moving to a new level of cooperation with European institutions. President Maia Sandu made the statement on 12 June during a press conference.
Thus, the meeting will be attended by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, President of the EU Council Antonio Costa and EU High Representative Kaja Kallas, Maia Sandu noted.
“Such summits are organized between the EU and candidate countries. The Republic of Moldova is a candidate country. It is the first summit, and every year, these discussions will follow. We will discuss at which stage we are in the EU accession process, to what extent the Republic of Moldova is fulfilling its commitments, and to what extent European institutions are fulfilling their commitments in this process. It is a high-level working format where we discuss very concrete topics related to our relationship,” added the head of state.
It is worth recalling that the organization of the EU-Moldova summit was announced in May by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. “We look forward to the next Moldova-EU summit, which will take place on July 4 in Chisinau,” wrote Ursula von der Leyen on X platform.
