Foreign Minister meets with new Head of Council of Europe Office in Chișinău

The Council of Europe is an important partner of the Republic of Moldova. The reforms we are implementing together directly contribute to strengthening democratic institutions and advancing our European path. Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi made the statement at a meeting with new Head of the Council of Europe Office in Chișinău Natalia Voutova on start of her mandate in the Republic of Moldova.

During the discussion, the officials reviewed the main results of the cooperation between our country and the Council of Europe, with an emphasis on the implementation of the Council of Europe Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova 2025–2028. The parties highlighted the contribution of this instrument to advancing democratic reforms and achieving the objectives assumed by our country in the process of accession to the EU.

“The reforms we are implementing together directly contribute to strengthening democratic institutions and advancing our European path. We continue to rely on the expertise and support of the Council of Europe to achieve the objectives we have set,” said Popșoi.

The sides also discussed cooperation in the areas of the rule of law, protection of human rights and strengthening democratic institutions, as well as the prospect of the Republic of Moldova advancing towards the post-monitoring stage within the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Natalia Voutova reiterated the willingness of the Council of Europe Office in Chișinău to continue supporting the authorities in implementing reforms and the Action Plan.

At the end of the meeting, Mihai Popșoi wished Natalia Voutova success in carrying out her mandate and expressed openness to continuing close and effective cooperation.

The Republic of Moldova became a full member state of the Council of Europe on 13 July 1995. Accession to this international organization represented an important stage in consolidating democratic institutions and bringing the country closer to European standards.
