DOC // Strategic Programme for Aquaculture Sector 2026–2030 published in Official Journal

The Strategic Programme for Aquaculture Sector 2026–2030 was published today in the Official Journal of the Republic of Moldova, following its approval by the Government. The document sets out the directions for the development and modernization of the fisheries sector for the next five years.

The programme aims to transform aquaculture into a more competitive, modern sector that is adapted both to market requirements and to the effects of climate change.

One of the priorities is the inventory, mapping, and grading of the country’s water bodies. Their hydrological and hydrochemical characteristics, as well as their biopotential, will be assessed. The data will make it possible to identify water bodies with potential for fisheries activities and to substantiate investments in infrastructure.

The document also provides for the rehabilitation of water bodies and hydrotechnical constructions, the modernization of fish hatcheries, and the genetic improvement of broodstock populations. The measures aim to increase production capacity and obtain high-quality fish stock, while simultaneously conserving the genetic pool.

Another objective is the development of fish and aquaculture product processing, as well as their promotion on the market. Farmers will benefit from professional training and knowledge transfer to improve product quality and safety, diversify production, and adapt fish farms to climate change.

The implementation of the programme will take place in two stages. The first will cover the period 2026–2028, based on a dedicated action plan, and the second, for the years 2029–2030, will be carried out through a separate action plan.
