Applications for accreditation of observers for new local elections and local referendums can be submitted until 10 May

The deadline for submitting applications for the accreditation of observers to monitor the new local elections and local referendums of 17 May 2026 expires on 10 May. Central Electoral Commission (CEC) made the statement today.

According to the CEC, in the case of public associations/non-governmental organizations from the country or from abroad, the request for accreditation of observers may be submitted only if their statutes or other internal acts provide for the conduct of election observation missions and/or activities in the field of protecting human rights or democratic values, promoting participatory democracy and/or the interests of certain categories of citizens. These entities must have a permanent governing body, authorized representatives, and mechanisms for communication with them.

Applications for the accreditation of national observers are examined within no more than 5 days from the submission of the complete file, and those for international observers within no more than 10 days.

On 17 May 2026, new local elections will be held in the village of Costești and the commune of Ruseștii Noi in Ialoveni district, the village of Mașcăuți, Criuleni district, the commune of Sărătenii Vechi, Telenești district, the town of Taraclia, Taraclia district, the municipality of Orhei, Orhei district, the village of Topala, Cimișlia district, the village of Copceac, Gagauzia, the village of Plop, Dondușeni district, and the commune of Frumușica, Florești district.

On the same day, local referendums will be organized on the recall of the mayor of the village of Hăsnășenii Mari, Drochia district, and the commune of Sadîc, Cantemir district.
