Starting this year, children with disabilities in the Republic of Moldova will receive an annual allowance of 3,000 lei, on 1 June, according to a legislative initiative supported by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection.

The support will be provided without the need to submit an application. In total, more than 13,000 children up to the age of 18 will benefit from this annual payment.

"This annual payment is designed as universal support for all families raising children with disabilities, regardless of the locality where they live or their social situation. We wanted a simple, clear and accessible mechanism, without unnecessary trips and without excessive bureaucracy. Therefore, these payments will be offered proactively, automatically, ex officio, without the need to submit any additional application," said Minister of Labour and Social Protection Natalia Plugaru.

Currently, people with disabilities in the Republic of Moldova benefit from several forms of financial support and social services. These include disability pensions and state social allowances for children and adults with disabilities, which are increasing every year.

The state social allowance for people with disabilities up to the age of 23 currently amounts to 2,448 lei per month, compared to 857 lei in 2020 – an increase of almost three times. In addition, people who care for children with severe disabilities receive allowances for care, accompaniment and supervision, the amount of which exceeds 2,600 lei per month.

Children and people with disabilities also benefit from compensations for transport services, including supplements for people with locomotor disabilities. At the same time, community-based social services are being developed: personal assistance, mobile teams, respite services, day centres, community homes, protected housing.

In addition, the National Programme for the Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities for 2026–2030 is being developed, which aims to increase the accessibility and efficiency of the social protection system for persons with disabilities and their families.
