Moldovan defense minister says Moldova directly threatened as long as Russia continues war in Ukraine
As long as the Russian Federation continues its unjustified war in Ukraine by destroying infrastructure and killing people, Moldova faces a direct threat of illegal overflights or incidents involving drones and missiles. Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatii has made statements to this effect, after the government meeting.
Referring to the recently discovered drone fragments, the official stressed that specialized institutions continued research and verification actions and the results would be communicated later.
“Specialists are analyzing the course of the incident, the origin and the objects found. Once the investigations are completed, the results will be announced. It is important to bring to citizens only verified information, in order not to manipulate this subject. The Defense Ministry is carrying out concrete activities to enhance the national defense capacity; we are continuing the modernization process, including in the field of air defense. This is taking place through the use of the national budget and with the help of assistance provided by partners,” said Anatolie Nosatii.
The minister also urged citizens to be cautious, when they find suspicious objects that might be components of drones.
“We ask people to be vigilant and urgently notify state institutions, if they discover suspicious objects. It is important, where possible, that the site be secured, so that people cannot access the area, in order to prevent dangerous incidents for citizens,” Anatolie Nosatii emphasized.
More components of a drone were found on a field in the central Telenesti district last week. It is believed to have illegally flown through the airspace of Moldova on March 30, 2026. In addition, an object similar to a drone was found on the roof of an apartment building in the central district of the Moldovan capital. It did not contain explosive substances.
