Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration attended meeting of EU's Political and Security Committee
On 6 May 2026, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Valeriu Chiveri paid a working visit to Brussels, and held meetings with officials of the institutions of the European Union and representatives of EU Member States.
During the visit, the Deputy Prime Minister participated, as a special guest, in the meeting of the Political and Security Committee (PSC) of the Council of the European Union, where he held discussions with representatives of all 27 EU Member States. In his address, the Moldovan official presented recent developments regarding the Transnistrian region and the dialogue between Chișinău and Tiraspol, as well as the priorities of the Government of the Republic of Moldova in promoting reintegration policies and ensuring equal and fair conditions for citizens on both banks of the Dniester River, including through the Convergence Fund. Issues addressed also included the socio-economic situation in the region, energy security, freedom of movement, respect for human rights, and the measures undertaken by the authorities in Chișinău to extend access for citizens from the Transnistrian region to public services and to the opportunities offered by the European integration process. At the same time, the vision and efforts of the authorities in promoting a gradual reintegration of the country through economic development, investment in infrastructure, convergence of living standards and strengthening of social and economic cohesion were presented. Ambassadors of the Member States and European officials reconfirmed the firm support of the European Union for the European path and accession process of the Republic of Moldova, commending the efforts of the authorities in Chișinău in advancing reforms, strengthening institutional resilience and promoting a gradual approach to the country’s reintegration process.
The Deputy Prime Minister also met with Audrone Perkauskiene, the European Union Special Representative in the Transnistrian settlement negotiation process and Deputy Director-General for Eastern Europe and Central Asia within the European External Action Service. The sides reconfirmed the importance of maintaining close coordination to support a peaceful and comprehensive settlement of the Transnistrian issue, with full respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova. The discussions also covered ways to strengthen European support for confidence-building measures between the two banks of the Dniester River and for projects aimed at improving the living conditions of the population.
Chiveri held meetings with Simon Mordue, Diplomatic Adviser to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, with Gert Jan Koopman, Director-General of the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR), as well as with Peter Wagner, Head of the Service for Foreign Policy Instruments (FPI) of the European Commission. The meetings focused on an exchange of views on ways to boost the reintegration processes of the two banks of the Dniester River, with the constant support of the European Union.
