Consultations for appointment of new Prime Minister ongoing

Consultations for the appointment of the candidate for the position of Prime Minister continue today at the Presidency of the Republic of Moldova, where the majority faction from the Legislature is expected. The Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) announced last night that they are going to discussions with the head of state, Maia Sandu, with the official candidacy of Alexandru Munteanu for the position of Prime Minister.

The leader of the party, Igor Grosu, stated that Alexandru Munteanu was unanimously voted during the meeting of the PAS National Political Council.

“Alexandru Munteanu is a person with the profile and experience that align with the current needs of our country, especially concerning economic growth. We believe he is the right person for this stage, capable of responding to challenges and continuing the European development direction of the Republic of Moldova,” declared Igor Grosu.

Consultations began yesterday at the Presidency, with the participation of representatives from the Democracy at Home Party, Our Party Political Party, Alternative Political Bloc, Communist Party and Socialist Party of the Republic of Moldova. None of these parties proposed a candidate for the position of Prime Minister.

After the rounds of discussions, the head of state is to appoint the candidate for the position of Prime Minister, who, according to the Constitution, will have 15 days to request the confidence vote of the Parliament on the activity program and the composition of the new Cabinet of Ministers.

Until the inauguration of a new Executive, the Government led by Dorin Recean remains in office, with limited powers.
