Moldovan parliament speakers responds to Russian ambassador-designate: “The only and most dangerous state in this part of the world is the Russian Federation”

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has rejected the accusations made by Oleg Ozerov, the Russian Federation’s designated ambassador to Moldova, according to which the West is arming Moldova and preparing it for a war with Russia, following Ukraine’s model.

“I believe that, in this part of the world, the only and most dangerous state is the Russian Federation, which brings nothing but destruction, invades, kills, destroys cities, bombs villages and so on,” Igor Grosu said.

The speaker also criticized the messages promoted by the Russian diplomat, noting that he represents the position of the Moscow regime.

“Other than that, this unaccredited person is nothing more than a mouthpiece for the fascist and Nazi messages—call them what you will—of this regime, which is extremely odious, and you can see what atrocities it is committing in the neighboring state,” Igor Grosu said.

Oleg Ozerov, the Russian Federation’s designated ambassador to Moldova, said in an interview with the Russian media that Western countries were arming Moldova and preparing it for a potential conflict with the Russian Federation, claiming that the situation was similar to that in Ukraine.

Oleg Ozerov arrived in Chisinau in October 2024 and, during the same month, presented copies of his credentials to Foreign Affairs Ministry. To date, he has not been officially accredited as the ambassador of the Russian Federation to Moldova.

President Maia Sandu has earlier said that Ozerov had not been invited to present his credentials, because of the attitude and statements of the authorities in Moscow toward Moldova. For his part, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi described the situation as “unusual,” emphasizing that the development of relations between Chisinau and Moscow depends on the actions of the Russian Federation.

Since his arrival in Chisinau, Oleg Ozerov has been summoned repeatedly to Foreign Affairs Ministry, including in connection with the Russian Federation’s violations of Moldova’s airspace.

On September 3, 2026, Oleg Ozerov was summoned again to Foreign Affairs Ministry, where he was handed a protest note regarding the Russian Federation’s intention to open 16 polling stations in the Transnistrian region for elections to the State Duma. Chisinau reiterated that the organization of any electoral process on the territory of Moldova required the prior and express consent of the constitutional authorities.
