Domnica Manole and Sergiu Litvinenco appointed as judges to Constitutional Court
The government today approved the decision to appoint Domnica Manole and Sergiu Litvinenco as judges to the Constitutional Court (CC).
The two magistrates are appointed for a six-year term.
“I want to highlight the over twenty-year career of Ms. Domnica Manole, a career in which she demonstrated professionalism, with courageous and balanced decisions, which led to the strengthening of the rule of law in the Republic of Moldova. As President of the Constitutional Court in recent years, she has been in the position to ensure with dignity the observance of the Constitution,” Prime Minister Dorin Recean said.
At the same time, the official emphasized that Sergiu Litvinenco initiated and essentially conceived the most challenging reform for the Republic of Moldova, the justice reform.
“Mr. Litvinenco provided the necessary tools for cleaning up the justice system and building a rule of law that ensures respect for the rights of all citizens of the Republic of Moldova. This is important both for the citizens and business environment,” stated Recean.
The judges of the Constitutional Court are appointed for a six-year term, are independent in exercising their mandate, and are subject only to the Constitution.
According to the new law regarding the Constitutional Court, the government is responsible for appointing two CC members, starting three months before the expiration of their mandate, a term ending on August 16.
The Constitutional Court consists of six judges: two are appointed by the Parliament, two by the Government, and two by the Superior Council of Magistrates (CSM).
