Ion Malanciuc appointed as judge at Constitutional Court

Ion Malanciuc was appointed today as a judge at the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova, following the competition organized by the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM).

CSM announces that there was only one candidate registered for this position – Ion Malanciuc, and his file was evaluated in accordance with Article 11 of the Law on Constitutional Court, which establishes the eligibility criteria for occupying the position: Moldovan citizenship, residency in the Republic of Moldova, higher legal education, high professional competence, and a minimum of 15 years of experience in the legal, academic, or legal research field.

CSM extended the competition for submitting candidacies for the position of judge at the Constitutional Court, after only one candidate submitted his file, but the result was the same.

After reviewing the file and deliberations in plenary, CSM decided to appoint Ion Malanciuc for a six-year term at the Constitutional Court.

During the meeting, CSM head Sergiu Caraman announced that although the law does not mandate vetting for Constitutional Court judges, Ion Malanciuc will be evaluated by the Evaluation and Selection Board of CSM, and the procedure has already been initiated.

According to legislation, the Constitutional Court is composed of six judges, of which two are appointed by Parliament, two by the Government, and two by the Superior Council of Magistracy.

The terms of five of the six constitutional judges will expire in August 2025.
