Moment of silence in Parliament. MPs honored memory of those who died in armed conflict on Dniester River

MPs observed a moment of silence today in memory of those who lost their lives in the armed conflict on the Dniester River. Speaker Igor Grosu invited citizens to take part, on March 2, in a March of Memory and a solemn rally organized at Grieving Mother monument within Eternity Memorial Complex in the capital.

At the beginning of the sitting, Grosu pointed out that on March 2 it will be 34 years since the outbreak of the armed conflict on the Dniester River.

"More than three decades have passed, but the wounds of that war remain open in the hearts of many families. Throughout all these years, the Russian Federation has continued to divide us, to set us against each other, but people on both banks of the Dniester want the same simple and natural things: safety, jobs, and confidence in tomorrow. Thirty-four years later, we have a duty to remember and to build. To build bridges where walls were once raised," he said.

The official invited citizens to participate in events dedicated to Remembrance and Gratitude Day.

"On 2 March, Remembrance and Gratitude Day, we invite you, starting at 10:00, to lay flowers at the monument to Stefan cel Mare. Afterwards, we will proceed in a March of Memory to Grieving Mother monument within Eternity Memorial Complex, where a solemn rally will be held. It is important that we jointly honor the sacrifice of our heroes, their courage and resilience," noted Grosu.

On 2 March 2026, it will be 34 years since the start of the armed conflict on the Dniester River, which lasted four months. It left a dark chapter in the history of our country. According to official data, over 30,000 people took part in the conflict. Three hundred soldiers and civilians died, and another 3,500 were wounded.

The ceasefire agreement was signed on July 21, 1992, after which political negotiations began to settle the Transnistrian dispute.

According to a decision of Parliament, March 2 was declared Remembrance and Gratitude Day, established in memory of the heroes who fell in the battles of 1992.
