EU Ambassador to Moldova concludes mandate

European Union Ambassador to Chisinau Janis Mazeiks has concluded his mandate in Moldova and delivered a farewell message. The Latvian official arrived in Chisinau in the summer of 2021 and represented the European Union in Moldova during four years.

‘’I am leaving Moldova after four years. I am in the same place where I first arrived in 2021, but I know that everything is different now. Moldova has become stronger, more confident, more resilient and more European. It has become more known to the world—not because of the billions stolen in the past, but for the courage and determination to move forward, despite all external attempts to stop it,’’ the diplomat wrote on his official page.

During his mandate, the European Union supported of Moldova through infrastructure projects, modernizing public services, supporting the business environment and strengthening the energy sector. Among the most important achievements, there are the EU's assistance in managing energy and pandemic crises, providing aid to farmers, support for Ukrainian refugees and implementing regional development programmes.

Mazeiks emphasized that the European Union had stood by Moldova ‘’not just in words, but in deeds,’’ and today the country is not just a partner, but a future EU member state.

‘’I thank from the bottom of my heart all those who were part of my Moldovan journey—my family, my colleagues and all people I met here. While I return to my homeland, Latvia, a part of me will always remain in Moldova,’’ the ambassador noted.
