Polish PM says there will be no safe Europe, no safe Poland, no safe France, no safe Germany without independent, secure Moldova
There is no safe Europe without a secure Moldova. Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk today made statements to this effect, at a joint conference with President Maia Sandu. The Polish official, alongside President of France Emmanuel Macron and the Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz, delivered a strong message of European solidarity, emphasizing that the security of the continent was inextricably linked to the security of Moldova.
“There is no safe European Union, there is no safe Poland, there will be no safe France and no safe Germany without an independent and secure Republic of Moldova,” Tusk stressed.
The Polish official declared that it is “a deeply personal honor” for him to participate in the anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Moldova and to convey the support of the entire European Union. He emphasized that Moldovans had proved courage and determination in difficult times, including when they were subjected to energy blackmail or misinformation campaigns.
“You have managed to achieve incredible things. You have maintained your dignity, moral condition and intellect, and you’ve chosen the right path – the European one. Even though it is not an easy path, you have shown that Moldova has the strength to resist and to move forward,” Donald Tusk said.
The prime minister of Poland compared the journey of the Republic of Moldova with Poland’s historical experience on the path to European integration, reminding that Warsaw had also gone through difficult years before accession.
“I know what it means to have patience and I believe that the impossible becomes possible. Moldova is today on the right side of history,” he added.
Tusk also highlighted Moldova’s role as a “country of peace” in the region, noting its solidarity with Ukraine and support for refugees since the starting of the war initiated by Russia.
“Europe is a culture of peace. By choosing the European Union, Moldova chooses peace and stability, in opposition to war and Russian aggression,” the Polish leader underlined.
In conclusion, Donald Tusk said that the Republic of Moldova is wanted in the European Union and that the efforts made for reforms and modernization would be recognized.
“Europe will be stronger with Moldova. Your friends are here, beside you. We support your aspirations and will move forward together,” concluded the Polish prime minister.
