Internal Protection and Anti-corruption Service of Ministry of Internal Affairs equipped with EU-supported modern drones for special missions

The Internal Protection and Anti-corruption Service (SPIA) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) has been equipped with two modern drones, valued at over 430,000 lei. The equipment, funded by the European Union and delivered through the Solidarity Fund PL in Moldova, will support special missions aimed at strengthening internal security and increasing the efficiency of investigations.

The drones are equipped with extended flight autonomy, high-resolution cameras, and thermal sensors, being adapted for complex aerial surveillance missions, documentation, and rapid interventions, including at night and under difficult conditions.

“In the medium and long term, the integration of drones will bring a significant increase in operational efficiency, facilitating faster investigations with a greater degree of success, especially in cases that require extensive surveillance or detailed visual documentation. This new equipment represents a strategic investment, aligned with modern trends in special investigations and the current needs of the service,” said Dorin Vrednic, head of SPIA.

Until November 2025, the European Union and Solidarity Fund PL will provide MAI-affiliated institutions with over 1,750 pieces of protection and rapid intervention equipment.

“These drones will support SPIA in monitoring hard-to-reach areas, documenting illegal activities, and in actions to prevent and combat corruption and other threats to internal security. Through this donation, the EU4Moldova Resilient project reaffirms our commitment to supporting the Republic of Moldova in modernizing and strengthening its security institutions, thereby contributing to the strengthening of the state's resilience and the protection of citizens,” emphasized Nicolae Soloviov, project manager.

EU4Moldova Resilient: Secure State, Strong Communities project has a budget of 9.5 million euros and aims to increase the capacity of the Republic of Moldova to respond to security challenges, as well as to support the country's European path by developing safe and resilient communities.
