Chisinau, 10 June /MOLDPRES/- The European Union, the US State Department and the OSCE leadership have issued statements on the political situation in the Republic of Moldova.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Johannes Hahn issued an official statement announcing that "the EU took note of the decisions voted by the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova and is ready to work with the legitimate government, based on mutual commitment under the Association Agreement. Respect for the rule of law and democracy should remain the pillars of our relations. This is, first of all, what Moldovan citizens expect and deserve, " the declaration reads.
A press release of the US State Department states that the 24 February elections were free and fair, and the will of the Moldovan citizens expressed in those elections must be respected without interference.
"Ensuring a prosperous and democratic future for Moldova and its citizens is a common goal that the USA will continue to support," it reads.
OSCE Chairman-in-Office Miroslav Lajčák urged all political forces in Moldova to overcome the current crisis through dialogue, acting on the basis of the Moldovan Constitution and respecting democratic principles and the rule of law.
"The OSCE Chairmanship follows the political crisis in the Republic of Moldova with great concern. Moldovan citizens need a political solution for the current crisis and stability to ensure the country's European path. Peaceful dialogue, democracy and the rule of law are important to prevent tensions, "Lajčák said.
Reactions to the situation in Chisinau came from the Foreign Ministry in Kiev and the Romanian Senate.
On 8 June, 61 MPs of ACUM bloc and PSRM convened in a plenary meeting and elected Zinaida Grecianii as speaker. They voted for a new Cabinet of Ministers led by Maia Sandu. Subsequently, all decisions adopted at the June 8 meeting were declared unconstitutional by the Constitutional Court.
