Presidential elections in Romania // Nicușor Dan thanks Moldovan citizens

Independent candidate Nicușor Dan, who won the presidential election in Romania, expresses gratitude to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova and President Maia Sandu.

"A special thought of gratitude and thanks to the Romanian citizens in the Republic of Moldova. Together, with trust and hope, we will continue our European path! I thank President Maia Sandu for her congratulatory message and for the support in these days," wrote Nicușor Dan on his Facebook account.

According to provisional results, after the verification of 90.9% of the voting records, independent candidate Nicușor Dan gets 53.71% of the votes, winning the presidential election against his opponent George Simion, leader of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians.

Nicușor Dan was congratulated by President Maia Sandu, Speaker Igor Grosu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

Moldovans with Romanian citizenship demonstrated unprecedented mobilization in the runoff presidential election. Over the three days of voting, over 158,000 people cast their vote in polling stations in our country. This is a record number, significantly surpassing the figure recorded in the first round of the Romanian presidential election, held two weeks ago, when about 91,000 Moldovans with Romanian citizenship voted over three days.
