European Parliament Vice-President: I am convinced that many colleagues will support request for Moldova to immediately begin European Union accession negotiations

Vice-President of the European Parliament Victor Negrescu said on the eve of adopting the resolution regarding Moldova that there is growing support in the European legislature for speeding up the integration process of the country. The statements were made in an interview for Radio Moldova.


‘I believe and am convinced that many colleagues in the European Parliament will support this request for Moldova to immediately start negotiations on the accession chapters to the European Union. Within the EU, Moldova will be stronger and will be able to manifest its sovereignty in a coherent manner. This means that, automatically, the voice of Moldova's citizens will be heard in Brussels or Strasbourg,’ Negrescu said.


The European official emphasized that Russia 'uses all means to block the European path' of the country. In this context, he pointed out that 'Europe must react,' and the European Parliament 'will continue to be in solidarity with the citizens of Moldova.'

MEP Siegfried Mureșan mentioned that through this document, the EU will show the support for Moldova's European path in the face of Russian aggression.

President of Moldova Maia Sandu will deliver a speech today before the European Parliament during a plenary session in Strasbourg. It will take place at 13:00. The head of state will speak about new threats to European democracies and about how Europe can protect the values and unity to the challenges.

MEPs have announced that the European Parliament will open an office in Chișinău, but this could happen after the elections on 28 September.
