Head of State: I want Moldova to be free country, so that people can protest, but protests should be authentic

I want the Republic of Moldova to be a free country, and for this, I will continue to work so that people can protest, but the protests should be authentic, the votes should be authentic, and our democracy should be authentic. The statement was made today by President Maia Sandu regarding the protest organized by the Patriotic Block at the Parliament.

The head of state called on citizens for unity and urged them to overcome ''this division largely caused by the Russian Federation.''

''I have wanted Moldovans to decide for Moldova, and I am glad that they have decided for Moldova despite all the interferences, despite the money that the Russian Federation has spent to meddle in our internal affairs. I am glad that our European path is secure, that we will have sufficient support in the next Parliament for the process of the country's accession to the European Union. The future government is responsible for working with the same responsibility and care for every citizen, regardless of the vote these people have cast. And, evidently, we can achieve more if we get over this division caused largely by the Russian Federation, by Kremlin in the current campaign and previously,'' declared Maia Sandu.

The official emphasized that she wants protests to become an authentic element of the democratic process again.

''We have seen how Moscow's dirty money has been used over the years to discredit even protests. When people are brought, transported, and paid to shout one thing or another - this weakens our democracy. As I have said before, I want the Republic of Moldova to be a free country; for this, I will continue to work so that people can protest, but the protests should be authentic, the votes should be authentic, and our democracy should be authentic,'' stated Maia Sandu.

The police announced this morning that they have information that people are being promised money to participate in the announced protest in the capital. The law enforcement reminded the organizers that they bear absolute responsibility for these actions.
