US Embassy congratulates Moldova's people for participating in parliamentary elections

The United States Embassy in Chisinau on Monday sent a congratulatory message to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova for their participation in the parliamentary elections held on September 28.

“We congratulate the Moldovan people for their participation in the parliamentary elections. Congratulations to the Action and Solidarity Party and to all parties that have surpassed the representation threshold in the Parliament. We look forward to working with the next government on topics of common interest,” the official statement of the diplomatic mission reads.

The US Embassy emphasized the importance of this democratic exercise, appreciating the mobilization of voters and the Republic of Moldova's commitment to democratic values. Additionally, American diplomats reiterated the United States' continuous support for the development of democratic institutions, strengthening the rule of law, and the European trajectory of the country.

Congratulatory and encouraging messages were also addressed to the people of the Republic of Moldova by the leaders of the European Union: Antonio Costa, President of the European Council, Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and Marta Kos, European Commissioner for Enlargement.

Additionally, congratulatory messages were sent by the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, President of France, Emmanuel Macron, and President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.

On Sunday, September 28, parliamentary elections were held in the Republic of Moldova. According to the preliminary results presented on Monday by the Central Electoral Commission, over 1,608,000 citizens with the right to vote were present at the polling stations, representing 52.2% of the voters included in the electoral lists. The Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) is leading with 50.16% of the votes. The party is followed by the Patriotic Bloc, which picked up 24.26%. In the future Parliament, the Electoral Bloc “Alternative” with 7.97%, Our Party with 6.20%, and the Political Party Democracy at Home with 5.62% will also be represented.
