Patriotic Bloc protested at Parliament

Discontent with the results of the parliamentary elections, members and supporters of the Patriotic Bloc protested today in front of the Parliament. They believe that the ruling party won the elections with the support of the diaspora, having a lower score in the country compared to the left-wing forces. 'In politics, you must know how to win, but also how to lose,' states Igor Grosu, leader of the Action and Solidarity Party, which won the elections.

The leaders of the Patriotic Bloc announced that the action is peaceful and was organized to express the party's position regarding the election results. They claim that the election was conducted with many violations and deviations from the current legislation and have notified the Central Electoral Commission.

'We have the figures announced by the CEC, but they are not approved. There are hundreds of violations and deviations in the electoral process. Today, we are not drawing conclusions, we are peaceful, waiting for the official decision of the CEC, and we will inform what our position is, whether we recognize or do not recognize the election results and how we proceed further,' Future of Moldova Party leader Vasile Tarlev said.

'We filed dozens of appeals to the Central Electoral Commission throughout yesterday. These are to be examined. Depending on the CEC's decision, we will proceed further on a legal path,' Socialist Party leader Igor Dodon said.

Scheduled for 12:00, the protest ended in half an hour.

The leader of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), Igor Grosu, stated that one of the essential freedoms of democracy is the right to protest, but according to him, this should be done 'in a civilized, correct, and responsible manner.'

Half-joking, half-serious, Igor Grosu mentioned that the representatives of the party he leads 'do not participate' in this protest. The PAS leader urged the organizers of the action 'to make efforts so that the next protest is money-free.'

'I address the politicians, who bear responsibility in front of the law, but also in front of the citizens they call, try to convince and bring to protests. The only request for the socialists is to make efforts so that the next protest is money-free. You call for a protest, but without paying them. And then maybe they will have a chance to become a more European, more democratic party,' stated Igor Grosu.

The police announced in the morning that they have information that people are being promised money to participate in today's announced protest in the capital. The law enforcement officers reminded the organizers that they bear full responsibility for these actions.

Parliamentary elections were organized on September 28 in Moldova. According to preliminary results presented by the Central Electoral Commission, the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) is in first place with 50.16% of the votes cast. The party is followed by the Patriotic Bloc, which garners 24.26%. In the future Parliament, the Electoral Bloc 'Alternative' with 7.97%, Our Party with 6.20%, and the Political Party Democracy at Home with 5.62% will also gain seats.
