President of Latvia and Prime Minister of Croatia sent congratulations to Moldovan citizens
Moldovan citizens have clearly chosen freedom and democracy, and the European future of the country "shines brighter than ever." The results of Sunday's elections confirm the trust that citizens have in the leadership of the Republic of Moldova, as stated in the messages sent on Monday, September 29, by President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs, and Prime Minister of Croatia Andrej Plenković.
"Congratulations, Moldova! You have made a clear choice for freedom and democracy, and Moldova's European future shines brighter than ever," wrote Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs on Platform X.
Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković congratulated President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu for the decisive victory obtained in the election.
"Congratulations to President Sandu for the decisive electoral victory in these critically important elections for Moldova. The result represents a strong confirmation of the trust that the citizens of the Republic of Moldova have given to her vision and leadership. Croatia remains committed to supporting Moldova on its European path and is ready to deepen cooperation to advance reforms, strengthen democratic institutions, and ensure a prosperous future for all Moldovan citizens," Plenković stated.
Messages of congratulations and encouragement were also addressed to the people of the Republic of Moldova by European Union leaders: Antonio Costa, President of the European Council, Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, Head of EU Diplomacy, and Marta Kos, European Commissioner for Enlargement.
Additionally, congratulations were sent by the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, and the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.
On Sunday, September 28, parliamentary elections were held in the Republic of Moldova. According to preliminary results presented on Monday by the Central Election Commission, over 1,608,000 eligible voters participated in the elections, which represents 52.2% of the registered voters on the electoral lists. The Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) ranks first, with 50.16% of the votes. It is followed by the Patriotic Bloc, garnering 24.26%. Also entering the future Parliament are the Electoral Bloc "Alternative" with 7.97%, Our Party with 6.20%, and the Political Party Democracy at Home with 5.62%.
