Moldovan parliament speaker in Copenhagen says EU candidate states to create common platform for parliamentary dialogue

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu in Copenhagen has taken part in an extended meeting with representatives of the parliaments of countries that are candidates for accession to the European Union. The event is organized at the initiative of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk.

According to the speaker, the meeting provided a framework for dialogue and exchange of experience between states on the path to European integration. The officials discussed the different pace of each candidate country, the challenges they face and the lessons that can help avoid mistakes in the accession process.

Igor Grosu emphasized the symbolic nature of holding the first meeting in this format in Copenhagen, the city where the criteria guiding the process of accession to the European Union were established. According to him, these criteria remain essential reference points for all states aspiring to become EU members.

“We agreed to launch the process of formalizing such a format of parliamentary dialogue, so that the parliaments of Moldova, Ukraine and the Western Balkan countries have a common platform for discussions, coordination and mutual support,” Igor Grosu said.

The new platform is expected to facilitate cooperation between the parliaments of the candidate states and strengthen mutual support in the process of European integration.

On May 3-5, Igor Grosu participates in the Conference of Speakers of the Parliaments of the European Union. The meeting addresses the main challenges faced by European states, including security and the enlargement of the European Union, democratic resilience and hybrid threats. In the context, participants are also discussing ways the parliaments of EU member states can support the candidate countries.
