Moldovan deputy PM, new U.S. Charge d'Affaires in Moldova discuss strengthening bilateral relations

The continuous development of the sustainable Moldova-American partnership, deepening sectoral cooperation and leveraging the potential for bilateral collaboration have been the topics discussed at a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi and the interim U.S. Charge d'Affaires in Moldova, Kevin Covert.

The Moldovan diplomacy head welcomed the American official and expressed the country's openness to strengthen the bilateral relations with the United States.

‘’I thanked for the constant support provided by the United States and emphasized the importance of the projects implemented with the support of American partners, projects that bring tangible benefits to the citizens of Moldova,’’ said Mihai Popsoi.

For his part, Kevin Covert reiterated ‘’the firm commitment of the U.S. to support the European path of Moldova and to continue democratic reforms.’’

Kevin Covert is the new U.S. Charge d'Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau. The official previously held this position in December 2024.

Covert is a high-ranking career diplomat, currently detached from his position as director for Eastern European Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, where he is in charge of Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus.
