Moldova's president signs decree withdrawing citizenship from five individuals

President Maia Sandu today signed a decree withdrawing the citizenship of Moldova for five individuals who hold positions and officer ranks in the structure called “MGB” (so called state security ministry), subordinated to the Russian Federation.

The procedure for withdrawing citizenship was initiated by the Public Services Agency, at the request of the Intelligence and Security Service, pursuant to Article 22 paragraph (1) letters b) and c) of the Citizenship Law of Moldova No. 253/2025, which provides for the withdrawal of citizenship from persons who have joined illegal military formations, the armed forces of an unconstitutional entity or of an aggressor state, or who have committed particularly serious acts that have harmed the interests of Moldova.
