Moldova's General Police Inspectorate warns about new fraud schemes: scammers send fake SMS messages about alleged fines for traffic infringements

The police are warning citizens about a new form of fraud, in which fake SMS messages are sent regarding alleged fines for traffic infringements.

According to the General Police Inspectorate (IGP), the messages contain information about exceeding the speed limit, threats about blocking vehicle ownership rights and suspicious links for paying the so-called “fine”.

“These messages are not sent by the IGP or any other state institutions. In this context, we recommend that you do not access the links received, do not enter banking or personal data, verify information only from official sources, and immediately report such cases to the police,” the institution noted.

In the event of any such attempts, contact the 112 Service, in order to notify the police.
