Ombudsman of Moldova launches new edition of Human Rights Caravan

The Office of the Ombudsman has launched a new edition of the Human Rights Caravan, a nationwide information and education campaign aimed at bringing closer to citizens the institutions and organizations involved in protecting fundamental rights.

The campaign is organized in partnership with the United Nations Refugee Agency  (UNHCR) Moldova, the Council of Europe, the National Confederation of Trade Unions of Moldova, the Danish Trade Union Development Agency, the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Moldova and the UN Human Rights Office in Moldova.

As part of the caravan, a Human Rights Town will be set up – an interactive space for the general public, where people will be able to benefit from free consultations provided by experts and public institutions, educational sessions and topic-related discussions, as well as recreational activities, games and contests for all ages.

The organizers say that the event is meant for children, young people, adults, older persons and vulnerable groups, with the aim of promoting knowledge and respect for human rights.

This year, the caravan will reach three localities of Moldova: Falesti on June 14, Hancesti on June 21 and Comrat on June 28.

On the first day of the caravan, interactive workshops, information stands and topic-related sessions will be organized, dedicated to fundamental rights, combating discrimination, protection against domestic violence, the rights of the child, refugees and access to justice. The second day will be reserved for meetings between the Ombudsman, the Ombudsman for Children’s Rights and local public authorities, in order to discuss existing problems in the regions and identify solutions for cooperation locally.
