Delegation of Austrian MPs on visit to Chișinău

A delegation of members of the foreign policy committees of the National Council and the Federal Council of the Parliament of the Republic of Austria is paying a visit to the Republic of Moldova on 25 - 27 May.

During the visit, the Austrian parliamentarians will hold meetings with head of state Maia Sandu, speaker Igor Grosu and deputy prime minister Mihai Popșoi.

At Parliament, discussions are scheduled with Deputy Speaker and Chair of the Foreign Policy Committee Doina Gherman, Chair of the European Integration Committee Marcel Spatari and with the members of the committees. The talks will focus on strengthening bilateral relations, in particular the development of interparliamentary cooperation and the projects implemented in the Republic of Moldova with Austria’s support.

After the discussions, the three chairs of the foreign policy committees – Doina Gherman, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and Chair of the Foreign Policy Committee of the National Council of Austria, Petra Bayr, as well as the Vice President of the Federal Council of the Republic of Austria and Chair of the Foreign Policy Committee of the Federal Council, Christine Schwarz-Fuchs – will make press statements on 26 May at 16:50.

The Austrian parliamentarians will also visit several projects in Strășeni district, implemented with the support of Austrian development cooperation, in partnership with the European Union. Thus, they will take part in the inauguration of the water treatment plant in the locality of Gălești and will visit the water supply project in the village of Căpriana and at „Adormirea Maicii Domnului” Monastery.

The Austrian delegation will also visit Ștefan Neaga Centre of Excellence in Artistic Education and the Austrian School in Chișinău.

In the Parliament of Austria, there are separate foreign policy committees operating in each of the two parliamentary chambers, and they have complementary roles.
