DOC // Moldovan president revokes citizenship of five officers from so-called state security ministry of Transnistrian region

President Maia Sandu has revoked the citizenship of five officers from the so-called state security ministry of the Transnistrian region. The head of state today signed a decree to this effect.

According to the document, the following individuals are concerned: Alexandr Bulgaz, Denis Caramanuța, Nicolai Covaliov, Denis Marusic, and Evghenii Romaniuc, all born in Moldova.

This decree enters into force on the date of its signing and may be challenged in  court.

In late last February, President Maia Sandu signed a decree revoking the citizenship of Moldova in the case of another nine persons who have held and continue to hold positions in the so‑called unconstitutional entities on the left bank of Dniester. At the same time, two of those concerned fought on the side of the separatists during the 1992 Transnistria War.

In this case, the procedure for revoking citizenship was initiated by the Public Services Agency, at a request by the Intelligence and Security Service, based on the finding of the existence of the legal grounds for revoking Moldovan citizenship – the commission of particularly serious acts that prejudice the interests of Moldova.
