Moldovan Foreign Affairs Ministry condemns entry of Russian-origin drone into territory of Moldova

The Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) has condemned the entry of a Russian-origin drone into the territory of Moldova, describing the incident as a violation of the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

According to the institution, any such flying apparatus crossing the airspace of  Moldova represents a threat to national security and to the safety of citizens.

“Any Russian drone on Moldova’s territory represents a threat to national security,” the MAE emphasizes.

The MAE notes that Moldova condemns such infringements and condemns the Russian Federation’s war of aggression against Ukraine, which also endangers the safety of Moldovan citizens.

In the face of security risks, the authorities announce that they will continue to invest in strengthening defense capabilities and in measures aimed at protecting the population and national territory.

Today, a Gerbera-type drone was found on the shore of a lake in the central Telenesti district. It did not contain explosives.

According to the police, experts from the technical-explosive unit examined the discovered aircraft and established that it is a Gerbera model, similar to those identified on the territory of Moldova in recent weeks.

Specialists confirmed that the device did not contain explosives and did not pose a danger to citizens.

This is not the only incident of this kind. At the end of the last year, a Gerbera type drone was identified near the settlement of Pepeni, northern Sangerei district.

A Gerbera drone that crashed in Floresti district was displayed in front of the MAE building after the Russian Federation’s designated ambassador received a protest note.

According to the General Police Inspectorate, Gerbera type devices can be used for deception, surveillance missions and information gathering, as well as for transporting explosives. They have an estimated weight of up to 18 kg and a flight range of approximately 600 km. The drones are designed to land autonomously when they run out of power, avoiding crashing and protecting people on the ground, while jamming technology helps prevent accidents.
