Moldovan parliament speaker has high-level meetings at Czech parliament

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has had meetings at the parliament of the Czech Republic with President of the Senate Miloš Vystrčil and President of the Chamber of Deputies Tomio Okamura. The official said that the Czech Republic was an example for Moldova in the process of European integration.

Igor Grosu thanked the Czech Republic for the support provided to the country and for its readiness to further strengthen relations between the parliaments of the two states.

“At the parliament of the Czech Republic, I had very good discussions with President of the Senate Miloš Vystrčil, a sincere friend of Moldova and a constant supporter of our European path. I also had a meeting with President of the Chamber of Deputies Tomio Okamura and with the chair of the Moldovan-Czech parliamentary friendship group. I thanked them for the support given to our country and for their openness to continue strengthening the relations between our parliaments,” said Igor Grosu.

The speaker noted that the Czech Republic was a good example for Moldova through its path of development in the more than 20 years since it has been a member of the EU.

“During those over 20 years since it has been a member of the European Union, the country has developed greatly. The Czech Republic has contributed over 33 billion euros to the EU budget and has received almost 76 billion euros. In other words, it has received from the European Union approximately 43 billion euros more than it has contributed. This money has been seen in development, local communities, infrastructure and the economy. This is also the meaning of our European path: to bring development home, to the villages and towns of Moldova. We have a lot of work to do, but we also have good friends who believe in us. And the Czech Republic is one of them,” said Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu.

Speaker Igor Grosu is paying an official visit to the Czech Republic on June 22-23 this year, at an invitation of his Czech counterpart, President of the Senate Miloš Vystrčil.

The agenda of the visit includes meetings with officials of the Czech Republic, with discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations, interparliamentary cooperation and the support provided to Moldova in the process of European integration.
