Moldovan parliament speaker has meeting with President of Slovenia

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu in Ljubljana has met President of Slovenia Nataša Pirc Musar. The officials discussed Moldova’s European path, regional security, and deepening relations between the two countries.

Igor Grosu thanked the President of Slovenia for her support for Moldova and for the country’s firm position in favor of the European Union’s enlargement.

“For us, it is important to have countries alongside us that have gone through the accession process and know how much EU membership can change people’s lives,” Igor Grosu said.

He noted that Slovenia is a relevant example for Moldova. The country joined the EU in 2004, while the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita increased from approximately 12,000 euros to around 34,000 euros.

“Moldova has the same ambition: to use the accession process, in order to build stronger institutions, a more competitive economy and a better standard of living for our citizens,” Igor Grosu said.

These days, the parliament speaker pays working visits to Slovenia and Hungary. The agenda includes meetings with high-ranking officials from the two countries, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and interparliamentary cooperation, as well as supporting Moldova’s progress in the European integration process.
