VIDEO // Changes made to leadership of parliamentary commissions of Moldova

Changes to the leadership of two parliamentary committees are set to be made following proposals submitted by the parliamentary faction of Action and Solidarity Party (PAS). MP Marcel Spatari is expected to take over as head of the commission for economy, budget and finance, while Adrian Balutel has been proposed for the position of chair of the European integration commission.

A draft decision to this effect has been registered by the parliament’s standing bureau. The changes are scheduled to be considered and approved in at the parliament’s plenary meeting on September 10.

Marcel Spatari currently chairs the European integration commission and is expected to take over the position left vacant, after PAS MP Radu Marian resigned as chair of the economy, budget and finance commission.

Spatari confirmed that he had accepted the proposal on behalf of his PAS colleagues and spoke about his priorities in the new position.

“Today I accepted the proposal from my PAS colleagues to take over the chairmanship of the economy, budget and finance commission. Since the beginning of this legislative term, I have served as chair of the European integration commission. Together with my colleagues on the European integration commission, we have provided support for dozens of drafts transposing European legislation,” Marcel Spatari said.

The MP noted that the work of the European integration commission also included cooperation with the parliaments of European countries, as well as hearings with government working groups responsible for the negotiation chapters.

“I have welcomed delegations of parliamentarians from European countries to  Moldova. Parliamentary diplomacy is very important in our efforts to join the European Union. We also heard reports from the government working groups responsible for all 33 negotiation chapters and established an expert council comprising 88 experts from academia, civil society and the diaspora,” Spatari said.

As chair of the economy, budget and finance commission, the MP aims to support economic growth by leveraging European investments.

“In my new capacity as chair of the economy, budget and finance commission, one of our objectives is to support economic growth through European investments. The Growth Plan for Moldova provides substantial funding from the European Union, amounting to 1.9 billion euros, which our country must absorb through concrete infrastructure and economic development projects,” Marcel Spatari said.

Another goal announced by the MP is to simplify the tax system and ensure that national legislation is compatible with the one of the European Union.

The MP said he would continue cooperating with the European integration commission and that all parliamentary committees must contribute to the same objective—Moldova’s accession to the European Union.

MP Adrian Balutel is expected to take over as chair of the European Integration Committee.

At the same time, Iurie Levinschi has been proposed for the position of deputy chair of the commission for agriculture and food industry, while Ion Groza has been proposed as deputy chair of the foreign policy commission.

Deputy Parliament Speaker Doina Gherman said that the changes proposed by the PAS faction are to be approved at a plenary meeting on September 10.

“Our colleagues are professionals with the necessary experience and training, and they are ready to put them at the service of citizens. Good luck and success,” Gherman concluded.
