VIDEO // Consumers to be able to compare natural gas and electricity suppliers’ offers in one place

The National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) today launched a digital tool for comparing offers from natural gas and electricity suppliers. The comparison tool is intended for household consumers and small non-household consumers, allowing them to check, in one place, the prices and commercial terms offered on the market. ANRE Administrative Board Director Constantin Borosan said that the liberalization of the natural gas and electricity markets gives consumers the opportunity to choose and change their supplier.


„On the free market, or the competitive market, consumers are free to choose their supplier, change their supplier, whether for natural gas or electricity, and negotiate the contractual terms, price or other contractual conditions,” Borosan said.


 


„The platform does not sell or purchase energy and does not recommend any supplier. It is an independent platform, a single space for comparing supply offers,” the ANRE representative noted.


To use the tool, consumers must select the type of energy – natural gas or electricity –, the consumer category, the administrative-territorial unit, and enter their estimated annual consumption. In the case of natural gas, the information can be taken from the bill or from the supplier’s personal account.

Offers can be sorted by unit price, estimated annual or monthly cost, or contract duration. For each offer, information is provided on the price, including whether it includes VAT, the validity period, contract duration, commercial terms, and the deadline for concluding the contract.



ANRE warns that the lowest estimated cost does not necessarily mean the most suitable offer for the consumer. The displayed costs are estimates and depend on actual consumption and the terms of the contract.

The tool can be used without creating an account and without entering personal data. It is available on the ANRE website and is scheduled to operate at full capacity starting October 1, 2026.

Borosan said that 32 suppliers with valid licenses are currently registered on the natural gas market, 14 of which were active on the retail market in the first half of the year. Of these, 12 operated on the free market, while six had household consumers in their portfolios.

In the case of electricity, the number of license holders is higher – approximately 80 suppliers –, but only nine were active on the retail market in the second quarter of the year. Of these, seven supplied electricity on the free market.

The ANRE Administrative Board director said that more than 400 consumers had switched to the free natural gas market, including approximately 130 household consumers. In the electricity sector, around 140 consumers, all non-household users, had switched to the free market.

The comparison tool was developed by ANRE with technical support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Moldova and the Government of Italy, as part of the program for accelerating the just energy transition in the Republic of Moldova.

During the conference, Borosan was also asked about the evolution of gas prices amid rising international quotations. He said that ANRE is monitoring the situation and that, if the upward trend continues, the natural gas supplier will have to carry out the calculations provided for under the tariff methodology and submit an application to the Agency.


„For the moment, we are monitoring whether this trend continues,” Constantin Borosan said.


According to the data presented, when the regulated price for the August–December period was approved, the calculations included a purchase price of 45 euros/MWh, while spot prices recently reached approximately 82 euros/MWh.
