Moldovan Prime Minister holds talks with farmers to simplify activities in sector

Dialogue with farmers to identify concrete measures that would simplify their work and provide greater predictability for the agricultural sector continued today at the Government. Prime Minister Vasile Tofan discussed several current issues with members of the National Farmers’ Federation, including access to financing, debt restructuring and reducing the administrative burden.

Farmers raised the need for longer-term lending and for expanding financing mechanisms adapted to the specific needs of agriculture. Issues related to debt restructuring and the enforcement of guarantors’ obligations, the application of the enforcement moratorium, and bailiffs’ fees were also discussed.

“We need to find a balance that encourages banks to lend to agriculture while ensuring that farmers have the necessary tools to finance their activities and protect themselves during more difficult periods. We need sustainable solutions that work both for farmers and financial system,” said Tofan.

The meeting also addressed measures to simplify farmers’ activities, including the implementation of the “report once” principle and the facilitation of mechanisms concerning daily workers. The Prime Minister reiterated the Government’s support for deregulation measures that eliminate unnecessary procedures and facilitate economic activity.

Regarding the situations reported by farmers concerning field inspections, the Prime Minister said he would ask institutions subordinate to the Government to ensure that checks are justified and farmers are not subjected to unjustified impediments.

The discussions also covered the reimbursement of the excise duty on diesel fuel used in agriculture, a measure supported by the Government, as well as mechanisms for subsidizing the sector.

The issues raised by farmers that require legislative amendments or interinstitutional solutions will be examined at joint meetings with the responsible institutions. Dialogue with farmers will continue so that the proposals discussed can be translated into concrete measures to support and simplify activities in agriculture.
