Moldovan parliament speaker in Rome says cooperation between Moldovan, Italian parliaments essential to Moldova's EU accession process

Cooperation between the parliaments of Moldova and Italy stays essential for strengthening institutional capacities and preparing the country for accession to the European Union. Speaker Igor Grosu today made statements to this effect at a meeting with Lorenzo Fontana, President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Parliament, in Rome.

The two officials discussed strengthening bilateral relations and deepening parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

“I expressed my gratitude for Italy’s full support in our efforts to modernize Moldova and received assurances that we can count on Italy’s support in advancing our European agenda. Cooperation between parliaments remains essential for strengthening institutional capacities and preparing our country for accession to the European Union,” Igor Grosu said.

The Moldovan parliament speaker expressed his gratitude for the fact that, one year ago, Italian lawmakers had ratified the Social Security Agreement Moldova and the Italian Republic.

“An agreement awaited for decades by our Moldovan citizens in Italy. Such gestures strengthen the sincere friendship between our countries and recognize the enormous contribution of our Diaspora in Italy,” the speaker noted.

Igor Grosu on October 15–16 participates in the European Conference of Presidents of Parliament of the Council of Europe member states, held in Rome. On the sidelines of the event, the Speaker has bilateral meetings scheduled with counterparts from several countries.

During his visit, the official met Moldovan businesspeople settled in various regions of Italy. The discussions focused on the entrepreneurs’ experience, business development in a competitive environment and ways to make Moldova more attractive to investment.
