DOC // Published in Official Journal: Republic of Moldova adopts European standards for entire national transport network

The Republic of Moldova is adopting European standards for the entire national transport network so that all investments in road, rail, inland waterway and air infrastructure comply with the requirements of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).

The new provisions have been included in the Regulation on the guidelines of the Republic of Moldova for the development of the national transport network, as part of the Trans-European Transport Network, which was published today in the Official Journal.

The document sets out requirements for core infrastructure, clear mechanisms for planning, monitoring and reporting, intended to ensure that any core infrastructure project complies with the technical parameters required at EU level.

As part of the TEN-T network, the Republic of Moldova will benefit from multiple advantages, including increased cross-border connectivity, improved safety, and reduced travel times. At the same time, the country’s investment attractiveness will grow and it will contribute to the balanced development of regions by including localities in European transport corridors.

The measure is part of the commitments undertaken by the Republic of Moldova as a candidate country for accession to the European Union and represents an important step in aligning infrastructure legislation with European standards.

The Trans-European Transport Network or TEN-T consists of all road, rail, inland waterway, maritime and air transport infrastructures of European importance, identified by the European Union in order to ensure connectivity, interoperability, and sustainable mobility between member states and neighboring countries.

The government decision approving the new Regulation will enter into force one month upon publication in the Official Journal of the Republic of Moldova.
