Foreign Ministry: We condemn violation of airspace. Such actions endanger citizens’ security

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova condemns the violation of the national airspace, after a Shahed-type drone was detected this morning in the area of Tudora, Ștefan Vodă district.

According to the institution, the incident represents “an unacceptable violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova” and is contrary to international law.

The ministry representatives stressed that such actions endanger the security of citizens and affect regional stability.

“We condemn the violation of the airspace of the Republic of Moldova. Such actions are unacceptable and contradict the norms of international law,” the official reaction of the institution states.

At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called for respect for the country’s airspace and reaffirmed the authorities’ commitment to protect national security and the safety of citizens.

The incident comes in the context in which, this morning, the authorities announced the detection of a drone that crossed the airspace of the Republic of Moldova in the south‑eastern area of the country.

In the last two years, the airspace of the Republic of Moldova has been violated by the unauthorized overflight of dozens of drones. Only in March of this year at least three such incidents were reported, including in the Palanca area. The situation was particularly tense also in November 2025, when the authorities reported several successive episodes, including a case in which up to six drones crossed the country’s airspace, and three incidents occurred within a span of only nine days.

Chișinău authorities have submitted protest notes to the designated ambassador of the Russian Federation, emphasizing that although the drones do not directly target the Republic of Moldova, their trajectories – associated with attacks on Ukraine – represent a real risk to national security.
