Parliament convenes in extraordinary session. MPs to meet on 24 - 25 August
Parliament is to convene in plenary sittings on 24 and 25 August. The Standing Bureau will examine the request of Speaker Igor Grosu regarding the convening of the Legislature in an extraordinary session during 20–26 August.
According to the Parliament’s Communication and Public Relations Department, the convening of the extraordinary session is determined by the need to adopt, as a priority, a package of draft normative acts of major importance. The initiatives stem from the commitments undertaken by the Republic of Moldova in the process of European integration and are provided for in the National Programme for Accession to the European Union.
The draft agenda of the plenary sittings of 24 and 25 August, which includes 36 draft normative acts, 22 of which bear the EU label, is to be approved tomorrow by the Standing Bureau. The documents proposed for examination concern areas of major public interest, such as the legal and institutional framework, management of financial instruments, digitalisation, infrastructure, the proper functioning of the electoral system, and the social, economic and mass-media sectors.
According to the Parliament’s Regulations, when the Legislature is not in ordinary session, it may meet in extraordinary or special sessions at the request of the President of the Republic of Moldova, the Speaker of Parliament or one third of the MPs.
