VIDEO // Moldova’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan presents letters of credence

Moldova’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan Igor Moldovan has presented his letters of credence to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The event took place during an official ceremony.

According to the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Astana, the assumption of the mandate comes at an important moment for relations between the two states, marked by a positive dynamic of political dialogue and a shared interest in developing economic cooperation and connectivity between the two countries.

During the meeting with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Ambassador Igor Moldovan conveyed the greetings of President Maia Sandu and emphasized the objective of “transforming the good political relationship between the two countries into concrete benefits for both sides.”

For his part, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted that he “will be pleased to welcome Maia Sandu to Kazakhstan.” The priorities of the new ambassador’s mandate focus on strengthening dialogue and cooperation with the Republic of Kazakhstan and with other Central Asian states, by identifying areas of common interest, promoting concrete projects, and capitalizing on the diplomatic presence of the Republic of Moldova in the region.

Igor Moldovan was appointed Ambassador to the Republic of Kazakhstan in mid-April 2026. He is a career diplomat, holds the rank of Minister-Counsellor, and has more than 20 years of experience in the diplomatic service and in the field of law. He has served as deputy head of mission at the embassies of the Republic of Moldova in the State of Israel and Ireland, as well as at the Permanent Mission to the UN Office in Geneva.

The Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Kazakhstan established diplomatic relations on 16 September 1992.
