Parliament convened in 30 sessions, passed 177 normative acts in first ordinary session of this year

Parliament convened in 30 sessions, with a total duration of over 220 hours, during the first ordinary session of this year. In the plenary sittings, MPs examined and passed 177 normative acts, including 127 laws and 50 decisions.

According to the Parliament’s Communication and Public Relations Department, of the laws adopted, 35 were aimed at harmonizing national legislation with that of the European Union. Of the total number of acts adopted, 69 concerned the amendment and supplementation of existing legislation, 27 were framework laws, 26 acts referred to the ratification of agreements, and another five concerned the denunciation or withdrawal from agreements.

Thus, in the first ordinary session of 2026, 291 legislative initiatives were submitted to Parliament for registration. Most of them – 180 – were submitted by MPs, 84 – by the Government, 26 – by the President of the Republic of Moldova, and one – by the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia.

Of the total number of legislative initiatives submitted by MPs, the parliamentary faction “Party of Action and Solidarity” presented 83 draft laws, the faction of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova – 27, the “Our Party” faction – 18, the “Democracy at Home” faction – 12, the faction of the Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova – 9, and the parliamentary faction “Alternative” – 5 legislative initiatives. The Standing Bureau presented six legislative initiatives, and another 20 draft laws were signed by MPs from different parliamentary factions.

In the first ordinary session of the year, the members of the Standing Bureau met in 28 sittings. During these meetings, 11 decisions were approved and another 14 topics related to the activity of Parliament were examined. Among them were the Legislative Programme of the Parliament for 2026, the ex-post evaluation plan of normative acts for the current year, the Communication Strategy of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova for 2026–2029, and the File Classification (Nomenclature) of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.

According to the Parliament’s Regulations, the legislature meets in two ordinary sessions per year. The first session begins in February and may not extend beyond the end of July, while the second session begins in September and may not extend beyond the end of December. Outside ordinary sessions, Parliament may convene in extraordinary or special sessions at the request of the President of the Republic of Moldova, the Speaker or one third of the MPs.
