Republic of Moldova received humanitarian aid from 35 countries in first half of year

The Republic of Moldova received in the first half of the year donations in the form of humanitarian assistance from 35 countries. The most valuable aid came from Germany, Israel, the United States of America, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, Bulgaria, Sweden, China, Japan, Poland and Romania. The data were presented today in the context of marking the World Humanitarian Day.

According to the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection (MLSP), this day highlights the spirit of humanity, recognizes the efforts of humanitarian workers and promotes solidarity with people in need of support.

“In this year, it has the theme ‘Act for Humanity’ and draws attention to the need to protect humanitarian workers and people affected by conflicts and crises. The campaign underlines the importance of early action, of preventing violence and of holding accountable those who attack humanitarian personnel, reaffirming the principles of humanity, dignity and solidarity,” the institution noted.

In the Republic of Moldova, humanitarian aid helps support people and families in situations of vulnerability. Beneficiaries include pensioners, orphans and children left without parental care, children with disabilities, families with three or more children, and single-parent families.

“MLSP expresses gratitude to all partners, donors, organizations and individuals involved in providing and managing humanitarian assistance. The support offered contributes to protecting the most vulnerable and to promoting solidarity with people who need help,” the institution emphasized.

World Humanitarian Day was established by the UN General Assembly in December 2008.
